Don’t let the cooler weather bring you inside
Horizon Homes loves the indoor-outdoor flow, and many of our homes have outdoor “rooms” to extend your living and entertaining areas. They’re usually undercover, providing protection from the worst of the elements.
If you want to keep using your outdoor rooms in Autumn and Winter, the first step is to bring in some warmth.
Here are our top tips to keep enjoying your al fresco areas as the weather gets chilly.
A fire pit is a stylish and functional choice for many Horizon Homes clients… and there’s just something magic about sitting around an open fire when the stars are out. Plenty of seating is a must around a fire pit!
If fire pits aren’t an option, how about a smaller tabletop fire bowl? It can be a stunning centrepiece for an outdoor table setting.
Just remember to keep children and pets at a safe distance from any devices using natural flame, and have a hose nearby, just in case of emergency.
Luxe it up
Make it cosy with faux fur throws, blankets and throws draped over the outdoor lounge. If you’re snuggled up in cushions and blankets, the outdoor room will be the perfect place to read a book or relax with a cup of tea in the fresh air.
While you’re there, add an outdoor rug – it will provide a soft layer between your feet and the cold stone or tiled patio.
OK, so technically outdoor feature lighting doesn’t actually add warmth, but it really can add ambience to an outdoor space and that can make it seem cosier. If you would like, Horizon Homes can coordinate with specialist outdoor lighting companies, so your outdoor it is all ready to go when you move in.
Turn on the fan
But make sure it is in reverse! Warm air rises and if you run your fan on its lowest setting in a clockwise direction it will push the warm air back down to where you can feel it.
Outdoor heaters… and heated floors!
There are so many options for outdoor heating now… from wall / ceiling mounted gas or electricity models, to free standing heat lamps.
Horizon Homes has even had clients who have requested underfloor heating in the patio or balcony. It’s a brilliant idea that will keep your al fresco area in use all year round.
An outdoor spa
A hot spa in chilly weather is the ultimate indulgence! When you build with Horizon Homes, we can organise the construction of your pool or spa as well.
