When you have an extraordinary vision for your dream home, you need an extraordinary builder – one that will help you bring those dreams to life with thoughtful design and meticulous craftsmanship.
Our client engaged us to design and construct a two-story home on a compact 370m² block, on a narrow inner-west street, to accommodate their growing family of four.
With the block facing west at the front and east at the rear, maximising natural light was a key priority in the design.
Warm recycled brickwork, sleek vertical cladding, and a distinctive gabled roofline, offer both curb appeal and architectural sophistication. A beautifully crafted timber fence enhances the home’s modern aesthetic.
Large windows bathe the interiors in natural light, while thoughtfully placed sliding screens on the upper floor add both protection for the large first floor façade windows and style. More light is funnelled through to the centre of the home via three skylights and an open roof structure above the stairwell. (As an aside, we also designed and installed skylights to brilliant effect in an external courtyard area off the laundry, to assist in drying of clothes, no matter the weather.)
Downstairs you’ll find the open plan kitchen/dining/lounge with butler’s pantry, a home office, laundry, bathroom and double car garage. And while that plan sounds fairly standard, this house is anything but.
Designed with both functionality and beauty in mind, the open-plan living and dining space is the heart of the home, featuring a statement fireplace, custom shelving, and an effortless flow to the alfresco entertaining area and sparkling in-ground pool. The outdoor area has kitchen facilities and a Vergola roof, enabling the clients to control light exposure and rain protection throughout the year.
The kitchen features premium finishes, and an oversized island bench, making it the ideal space for both casual dining and culinary creativity. A discreet butler’s pantry keeps the space effortlessly organised.
Discerning Design Features
Once again, the owners have chosen to mix textures, cool tiled floors contrasting with the warmth of the wooden kitchen island, striking olive cabinetry, brush brass tapware and finger tile splashbacks.
Details like the whimsical triangular window next to the fireplace, or the built in shelves adjacent the kitchen and in the home office are only possible with a custom home builder.
There are four bedrooms upstairs – including the primary suite with a walk in robe large enough to be considered a dressing room, and ensuite bathroom – plus a family bathroom.
Exquisite textures again feature in these bathrooms, which are truly an ode to modern luxury with statement basins, gorgeous tile choices and freestanding soaking tubs.
Every detail in this home has been carefully considered – from the elegantly curved timber staircase to the thoughtfully designed lighting and integrated home automation system, to the tactile finishes; it all adds to the sense of harmony and warmth throughout.
But it is also what you can’t see, that makes this home so special:
- Double-glazed windows were installed for improved insulation and energy efficiency;
- Solitex Extasana wall wrap was applied to the ground floor brick veneer walls, with all joints and window edges sealed using Tescon Extora Tape, providing next generation weather protection;
- Insulation was added to all external walls and between floors for enhanced thermal performance;
- Window shading hoods added to the north-west elevation to reduce heat gain;
- Light-coloured cladding and a metal roof were selected to reflect heat and improve energy efficiency; and
- Internal ceiling fans were installed to promote airflow and enhance comfort.
This custom-built residence by Horizon Homes is more than just a house – it’s a lifestyle.
