Building child friendly homes
At Horizon Homes we build for families – so what are our top five tips for a kid-friendly home?
Lots of built ins!
If there’s a place for everything, it helps kids keep a little order in their worlds. When we sit with you to custom design your new home, we can suggest bespoke joinery that works for your family. Built in wardrobes, display shelving, libraries, desks… our qualified carpenters can build just want you need.
An upstairs lounge
Many of our families choose to incorporate a private living area upstairs, near the family bedrooms. Great as a living room when the kids are little and you need to be close after they’ve gone to sleep… and when they’re not so little, convert the space to a games or homework area.
At Horizon Homes, we love the indoor-outdoor flow. Perfect for entertaining, but helps you keep an eye on the kids when they’re playing outside. You can choose to have Horizon Homes project manage your landscaping and pool construction when we build. Or you can choose to do it yourself afterwards. We’re completely flexible!
A butler’s pantry
“That’s not a kid-friendly space,” you say. We beg to differ! All those devices your kids love to use by you don’t want on display in your sleek new kitchen – milk shake makers, juicers, toasted sandwich makers – can all claim bench space in the butler’s pantry for easy access, keeping the mess out of the kitchen!
This is such a popular feature for our clients. Usually occupying a space near the door between the garage and the house, the drop-zone is an area to store shoes, school bags, umbrellas, keys – everything you need as you run out the door to school or sporting practice.
Sometimes a drop-zone will incorporate joinery to give each family member their own cubby hole or hanging space… no more school bags dumped in the middle of the living room floor!
If you love where you live, but don’t love your existing home, Horizon Homes are the knock-down rebuild experts. Every home is custom built and designed to the needs of both your block and your family.
