The ‘Drop Zone’
One of the latest home building trends we love is the incorporation of a the “mudroom” or “drop zone” into a new home.
The drop zone could be considered a smaller, more compact version of the “mud room”. It’s usually built in that transition space between the garage and the home. If entering your house through the garage the drop zone is the last thing you see when you leave your house… and the first place you visit when you get back home.
It’s a handy place to keep the car keys, shoes, the kids’ school bags, hats, coats, dog leads… whatever!
Many of Horizon Homes clients are incorporating shelving or cupboards into the drop zone, to keep things neat and tidy. It could be as simple as a single hallway cupboard… it could be a system of cubicles for each family member. Others have created a true organisation “hub” with a space to leave mail and a noticeboard for the family schedule.
There really are no rules – it is just what works well for you, and your family.
